How to Return or Exchange an Item at Nordstrom

Nordstrom is a high-end clothing store that sells clothing and accessories for men, women, juniors and kids. Nordstrom operates stores and an online shopping website for customers. Customers can choose to return items purchased in store or online to the nearest Nordstrom store as long as they have the packing slip (for online orders.) Online orders can also be processed by mail.

Returning an Item

Returning items purchased in a Nordstrom store: If you have items you purchased in a Nordstrom store that you’d like to return, take the items back to any store with the receipt. Credit card orders will be credited back to the card used for the purchase.

Returning items purchased online: Online purchases can also be returned to a nearby Nordstrom store. Feel free to find a Nordstrom store at Your order can also be processed for return at the Customer Returns department for Nordstrom Direct. Simply print off a U.S. Return Label here and attach the label to your package.

If you purchased an item online, you can print an order sheet from your account if you’ve lost the packing slip. Simply log in and find the order to print the appropriate page.

There are detailed instructions about how to return an item, but that is all the information provided. We contacted the Nordstrom customer service department at 1-888-282-6060 to see how long customers have to return items purchased at Nordstrom. According to the agent, stores typically take returns for 30 days after the merchandise was purchased. The warehouse, however, reviews each item that is sent back to see if it is in good shape, no matter how long it has been since the purchase. If the return is in good shape, the credit is issued. We did not have to wait through an automated response. The call was answered immediately after a short greeting was played welcoming us to the Nordstrom customer service line.

  1. My thought on the Nordstroms return policy.

    Nordstroms should return any item at any time no matter how long the purchase has been. If it was over 6 months to a year I can understand the outdated items may not even be sold in store any more so I can understand that but it has only been 3 months since I bought these Nike shoes and if I cannot take them back I will be very upset. My brother did not have his birthday until 3 months after I purchased the srhoes as a gift. They simply did not fit him… They should easily b
    e returned to the Nordstroms I purchased them at. I have the receipt. UT should be so simple. I’m crossing my fingers.

  3. I need to return couple of absolutely new items purchased a while ago, (apx.3, 4,5 yrs). They all have tags, but I did not keep receipts, kept tags and thought it was enough in case of returns.
    Can I return them without receipts?

    regarding returns.
    Example: 2 pair of earings/one with tag and receipt
    1 with tag but no store receipt
    2 silk scarfs with tags
    1 pr. slacks with price tag but no receipt
