How to Return or Exchange an Item at H&M

H&M is a fashion company that offers clothing, accessories and shoes online, in stores and by catalog. There are selections for men, women, teens, children and plus-sized women. The company is located outside the United States and all prices are in a currency other than the US dollar. We did not find mention of international shipping or international returns.

Returning an Item

Returning an item in an H&M store: If you purchased an item online and you want to return that item to an H&M store, you can take the item and the packing slip to the store for store credit. A refund will not be issued. You must take the item back to the store within 28 days of purchase for an exchange or refund. Find the store nearest you at http://www.hm.com/gb/store-locator.

Returning an item online: H&M has different return policies depending on how your items were delivered. If Royal Mail delivered your package, use the label that was included with your package to return your H&M purchase.

If Hermes delivered your package, contact Hermes using the phone number listed on the yellow sticker. You can also call the customer service department to have collection scheduled. Customer service is also available to mail you a return label that is prepaid for your convenience. Again, items returned via mail must be returned within 28 days of the order being placed.

According to the Distance Selling Regulations, customers have a cooling off period when they can return an item for a full refund. Where that regulation is not applicable, customers will pay a restocking fee when an item is returned.

Official H&M Return Policy

There’s not much to the official return policy for H&M. The company allows 28 days for you to return items purchased online or in store. All items must be in the original condition as they were when they were purchased, with tags attached. Clothing items that are worn or washed will not accepted for return. If the item is defective, items will be accepted for return even if it has been worn and washed.

  1. H&M policy is very dishonest, I went to return a shirt yesterday and they wanted to give half the price for what I paid because it had been over 30 days, even if I had paid full price. i can understand if i didn’t have my receipt, then yes I would not have a choice, but I had my receipt and they still wanted to keep 10.00 dollars that were mine. Just because they have this policy it does not make it right, it’s a policy not a law, this is being dishonest, this is stealing from the consumer. Is this how is become a multimillion dollar company by stealing from others?

  2. I just purchased a shirt yesterday using $6 coupon from an app off my phone. I still paid $14 for. I noticed the cashier taking off the garment tag, which wasnt a big deal until I got home and realized after reading the receipt that all returns have to have original tag attached. I wasn’t even given the option since they removed my tag!!! Very dishonest! Calling the store tomorrow!!!

  3. As much as i love H&M, their customer service does suck! I feel like H&M just tries to rip customers. Their new collection of clothes goes on sale after a month. Their cashiers/employees are not aware of current prices or items. One time i purchased items that were on sale, and i am the the type to pre calculate what i will be paying for. So after i received my receipt, the amount paid was higher than i had calculated. I told the cashier and she made the mistake of not taking the additional discount for me.

Now i am a little worried because i purchased 2 leather jackets online, i returned one 2 days ago….and now the waiting game begins. I kinda wish i did not read the return online reviews, because now i am paranoid that it might get lost or that they might say they can’t refund me or whatever BS. I just also realized that there is a RE STOCKING fee?! These are not electronics?! We’ll see what happens with my returned item….

  4. I bought a top for 24.99 I did not try it on when I bought it. I bought the largest size so I thought it would fit.The size on the garment was incorrect I tried to return it today as I had mislade the receipt and found it -again it was10 days after their return policy they would not let me exchange if for another item the exact same price. The top was from the fall collection and had the tag on it. I am a customer for the past 17 years I purchases at least once a week I have spent 1000s of euro at this store I think it’s a disgrace to embarrass me in front of other customers and not to make an exception for a loyal customer. I certainly won’t be visiting this store In the near future.

  5. I purchased a bunch of items at H&M in London, UK and the items purchased for my kids don’t fit them so we would like to return them in the USA. Are they returnable here in the USA? Please advise. Thanks!

  6. H M is not responsible for packages sent with a return label not provided by H M. H M does not accept C.O.

  7. WORST RETURN PROCESS OF ANY RETAILER I HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH. Customer service hung up on me. They will not give me an address to ship to. they will not forward the return label to anybody but the name on the account. I return things ALL the time to many, many retailers! This is the ONLY retailer that is rude, ignorant and has archaic policies.

  8. Bought children’s clothes on line and want to return them. Unfortunately they were home delivered by Hermes which means I can’t just do a simple return at a Post Office.

I need to contact H & M customer service to arrange a collection but the number listed doesn’t connect so I’m stuck with clothes I don’t want but H & M have made money out of it. I won’t be buying H & M clothes on line again.

  9. I couldn’t print off the label. ridiculous so ive now got to go to a post office or Hermes drop off, in Covid 19!
