How to Return or Exchange an Item at DSW

DSW, or Designer Shoe Warehouse, is a huge shoe store with physical locations and a massive website. DSW sells shoes for kids, men and women at lower retail prices than other companies. The company also offers some accessories, including handbags and socks. Customers can choose to return orders either by mail or to the nearest DSW store.

Returning an Item

Returning an item to a DSW store: Take your unworn merchandise back to any DSW store (find a nearby store at http://www.dsw.com/dsw-shoes-locations/) for an immediate credit. You must bring the receipt or the original packing slip with you to the store. The original packaging for the shoes or other item must also be available at the time of the return. You must return the items within 60 days of purchase to receive a refund. If the 60 days have passed, DSW will still accept the return, but you will be issued store credit.

Returning an item by mail: Pack all items back into the original box or a new box. Fill out the return page on the invoice included with your package. Indicate whether you wish to have a refund or an exchange. If you want to exchange the item, indicate the size, color or other details about the replacement. You will notice a refund on your credit card for the refund and a new charge for the exchange order. If you received your DSW item as a gift, you can exchange the item as desired. If there is a price difference and you are owed a credit, you will receive a store credit for the difference.

After packing the box, place the pre-paid FedEx label on the outside of the box or ship the box using a carrier of your choice to the returns address.

The official policy for DSW returns is available on the returns page at http://www.dsw.com/dsw_shoes/customer_service/index.jsp?content=cs_returns. DSW accepts returns in new condition for a refund within 60 days of purchase. After 60 days, customers will receive a store credit for the refund.

Customer service is available at 1-866-379-7463. The customer call center is only open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. When we called the automated system (self-service) was available. We were able to check order status or find a store, but we were not able to talk with a representative about returning an item to DSW.

  1. I love DSW return policey They even accept online purchases to be returned to the physical store. Other shoe companys I wont name will not. If you order online you have to return through the mail which is a lot more hassle and money Thank you DSW for being considerate of your customers! Oh and for the wide variety of shoes of course!

  2. I came into dsw and noticed my coupon did not start until the next day. The sales associate took it and thanked me for coming. That was so so nice. That makes me want to come back.

  3. I purchased some DSW shoes through check cash payment and it cleared through my bank. According to your return policy I would only receive customer credit when I return shoes. If I show cancelled check copy can I get cash return or must I still do my continuous follow-up until I reconcile my bank account and it appears. This could mean a month or two later. How much evidence does DSW need to verify this purchase returned and why. Please advise.

  4. I need to return a pair of shoes that after wearing around the house,find they are too tight on right foot. I did receive a free tote from a post card you sent me. Should I also return this with my shoes?

  5. I brought 2 pairs of shoes back in December, intending to definitely keep a particular one. I wore the shoes but had so much discomfort to my arches and toes, I saw stars. I will not wear these shoes again. I see them and I feel the pain. I need to return these shoes. I however misplaced my receipt but The sale is on my credit card statement. Why can’t I just present the card with which I purchased the merchandise and receive a credit to my card? In any case the shoes must be returned. I cannot wear whose that cause meal agony.

    How do I go about getting a copy of my receipt or what are my other options in terms of a refund?

    I went to your store in Columbus, Ohio and bought a pair of shoes. I was looking for Wide shoes but the associate said that you don’t sell Wide shoes. On April 7, 2014 I looked online and the lady I spoke with said that you do sell wide so I ordered a pair of shoes and was excited that you did indeed have wide shoes. I told her that I needed them the next day so she said that I would have to pay 18.95 for shipping and that I would get them on the 9th of April. On that day I went to the post office where she said that it was okay to ship to a post office box, well they didn’t come in on the 9th. so I called and talked to someone else and she said that the post should get the shoes by 4:30 on the 9th. Well I went to the post office today to get the shoes and they were not there. I called again today very upset because I am flying out next Tuesday and I need those shoes. The lady I talked to today April 10th said that you could not receive anything at a post office box only if you are not in a hurry. the first person I spoke with said that it was fine. So now I guess they are shipping my shoes fed ex I think and I should get them tomorrow morning. I hope I get them. I have never ordered or bought anything from your shoe stores and I was very unhappy that my first experience was terrible. I hope I get my shoes.

    The lady today refunded my shipping cost. I thank her for that.

  7. I’m 64 and have shopped DSW 20+years, introduced my daughter to the store too. I always return with a receipt and am refunded cash after using my debit card. I never click credit in case I want access to cash. 5/25/14 I returned a pair of shoes asked for a refund, was unaware my refund would be put back on my card. I insisted upon a return, which is always usual no matter what store. After 3 phone calls by sales associate Erin and my waiting in line for more than 20 minutes. I was told refund couldn’t be awarded to me, debit refund only. I was dismayed there was no apology or even an option for a cash or debit refund before she processed it. Poor customer service, she only acknowledged that she could’ve issued an option, but didn’t. EASTGATE Pavilion…Return 00029257/0001.

  8. I bought a pair of shoes in store at Fair City Mall in Fairfax, VA I would like to return them but do not have return form. Can you tell me where I can find the form on line or can you email me one. Thank you

    • Terrible on line return procedure. One should not have to read through several How to Return Purchases and not find a way to print the return label, forcing the purchaser to have to phone you, and using your company’s time, and then be told a label would be emailed within 48 hours.
      I suggest you take some lessons from Amazon. It is doubtful I would order from you again. Too much hassle and time wasted.

  9. How do I return shoes (that I purchased), for a different pair? The ones I bought are tearing -up already and I only wore them 1 time.

I bought a pair of leather Teva flip flops last week usually they stretch out and super comfortable but for some reason this style in Tevas isn’t doing that plus they run bigger than usual I think they may have been miss marked at the factory. I’ve worn them a few times and would like to return/ exchange them for something else. Is this possible? I do have my receipt still and I shop at your store very often. Please let me know if I’m able to take they back. Thank you in advance.

  11. I recently bought a pocketbook from your store while traveling. After bringing the pocketbook home I decided that is just not me. I didn’t receive an invoice with my purchase and we do not have any store near us. Thank you.

  12. I bought a pair of sandals from store in Tigard OR. I live 3 hrs from that store. Returns must be made within 60 days of purchase. I cannot get to store and am unable to find an alternative on line. What can I do?

  13. Was charged for shipping on a recent purchase even though I am a VIP member. Cant get anyone on the phone or able to contact anyone. Was also charged over $50.00 for sandals that were $49.00. They can’t use the Virus for lack of communicating with customers. I guess this is why Amazon is so popular.

  14. I have to retract my November 20, 2020 review of my dissatisfaction with DSW’s online return procedure! I just now discovered a Fed Ex return label in the shipping box. My sincere apologies to DSW!!
