How to Return or Exchange an Item at Costco

Costco is a warehouse retailer with locations all over the United States. The company also sells wholesale items online. If you have an item you would like to return, you have the ability to return your item in warehouse or online.

Returning an Item

Returning items purchased online: All items can be returned to a Costco store. If there is no store located close by, customers can contact the customer service department at 1-800-955-2292 to initiate a refund. The return shipping for the item will occur the same way the item was shipped. For instance, if the item was delivered via freight (large furniture and the like), it will be picked up by a freight company. All merchandise must be packaged the same way it was packaged when delivered.

If the item is smaller, a shipping label will be sent via email to the customer after talking with the customer service representative.

Returning items to Costco: Bring the item you need to return into the nearest Costco warehouse with the packing label or a copy of the order printed from your online account, if the item was purchased online. If the item was purchased in the warehouse, bring a copy of the receipt. Take the item to the customer service desk for a refund. If you are returning an electronic device, you may need to return the item no later than 90 days from the date of purchase.

When we called the customer service line at 1-800-955-2292 the automated system asked a few questions to direct our call and after about 45 seconds we were patched through to a customer service agent. We asked if there was a returns address and the agent asked for our order number. We told her we did not have that information in front of us and she said she could not help with the returns address without an order number. She suggested be return our items to a local warehouse for a faster refund.

  1. On May 30,2014 I purchase from your store(#674) in
    Glendale, AZ a VIVA water cooler(651870 $149.99). After
    getting proper water bottles, I set the cooler up according to users manual.
    Problem, the cold water dispenser does not function, water is tepid. The unit was ran for six hours before
    turning cold tap on. Try again several times over last
    few days and still no cold water…By the way the hot
    water is working properly. I have called the number on
    the manual, but getting the bums rush! I would like to take this unit back to store for exchange.

  2. We got a light fixture I was wondering what is the returning policy is for them? Is it consider an electronic item? We have lost the receipt is it possible to track it up in the system to confirm purchase?


  4. Just be aware that our local Costco warehouse (in Illinois) throws out any and all food that is returned. I am not sure if this is Costco policy nationwide.

  5. Hello. I purchased a blendtech ar Costco and it’s been a year and I’m having problems with it would I be able to return it to the store? Or get an exchange?

  6. On May 20, 2017, I placed an order for two SafeRacks Overhead Garage combo kits. They were eventually shipped, and we called SafeRacks for them to install the racks. I received a call from them stating that they had no one to install the racks because of our distance from Cary, NC. Therefore, we are returning the units. Please arrange to have them picked up for the return.
